Thank you...
One of the fundamental reasons for the long-standing continuation of the game is the willingness of major companies to provide sponsorship for the match. On behalf of the Event Organising Committee, we would like to express our thanks to those companies who have contributed financially through sponsorship, donations, advertisements and corporate hospitality.
We welcome back talkSPORT radio 1089/1053am, who are providing an outside broadcast of the match during the afternoon and undertaking interviews with the celebrities to obtain the atmosphere.
Once again we are extremely grateful and indebted to LODGE PRINTERS of Upton. Without their expertise and free of charge efforts, the fantastic programme in your hands would have never materialised! Likewise, they have printed a flysheet and posters (kindly and expertly created by the brilliant Ron Ronaldo Hodgkin).
Thanks to Neil Richards of Matelot Marketing Ltd, (who could sell ice to the Eskimos!) for securing such a volume of adverts for the programme and thereby raising a great deal of money for MENCAP. Cheers, Dan at Tamoko for stepping in at short notice to produce the programme.
Greene King, our main drinks suppliers have provided the bar requirements for the Beer Tent, and with the two clubhouse bars, hopefully everyone will be able to find something cold and thirst quenching, whatever the weather! Once again, we thank the representatives of The St Johns Ambulance Service on hand to provide medical assistance where necessary. Their continued support and help is greatly appreciated.
Nearby, Alconbury Butchery Service have a barbecue running from 1.00pm onwards, at which beefburgers, hot dogs etc will be available. You will also find an ice cream van parked on the field catering for your needs. Alconbury-cum-Weston Womens Institute will be serving cups of tea and soft drinks.
Toilet facilities exist inside the clubhouse and portable toilets are located to the rear of the pavilion. Please remember to make good use of the many rubbish bins located around the field, which have been kindly donated by BAS.
Players will be pleased to sign autographs during the afternoon as they mingle with the crowds around the field. However, the number of people here today inevitably means that security is one necessary aspect of the day. To give our guests a degree of privacy within the hospitality enclosure, we are indebted to Intacept of Peterborough, who have organised the security. We would also like to thank the Commanding Officer of RAF Molesworth for the loan of the crowd control barriers and B & E Welding for the provision of their transportation.
The commencement of any cricket match would not be complete without a shining cricket ball and Hunts County Bats have again kindly supplied todays match ball. Dont forget to buy a raffle ticket (or two!). All proceeds go to MENCAP and there are plenty of great prizes to win, thanks to Light Blue Travel, Huntingdon Racecourse and Clover Leisure to name but a few.
Finally, on a personal note, it was hard task to assume the reins in such sad circumstances, but it was made much easier by Davids (as ever!) efficient records. The Field is in amazing condition, purely down to a marvellous ground staff. When the days work is done, our saviour appears in the guise of Mick Gunney, who selflessly provides us with a hot meal and really does feed the proverbial 5,000! Thanks to everyone on the Organising Committee, especially the inspirational Bob Berrington what a man!
