It is a pleasure to welcome you all to Alconbury Sports and Social Club for the annual Cricket Match in support of Mencap. Once more David English has brought the special genius of the Bunburys team and we are thrilled that they are once again able to play David Folb’s Lashings.

The match this year is an especially poignant one, for it takes place without David Pilling whose brain-child it was. When David died unexpectedly and prematurely in February the village lost a man who was dedicated to the community and who was the inspiration behind the Annual Cricket Match.

Over fourteen years David had organized and refined this event which has raised more than £60,000 for Mencap and provided an enjoyable afternoon for players and spectators alike.

This year’s match is a tribute to David, who will be remembered with enormous respect and affection by all who have been involved with the match and all those who have benefited from his commitment.

We also owe much to our sponsors and advertisers who contribute so much to the success of the event, and we thank our spectators for their support and wish you all an enjoyable afternoon. May the sun shine.
